McLaren Park has 6 tennis courts along Mansell Street, all reservable on rec.us for $5 per court per hour. That ties Mission Dolores Park for the most courts at any city site outside Goldman Tennis Center. There are no lights, so plan on daylight play.
Where the courts are
Rec & Park lists the tennis address as Mansell Street and John F Shelley Drive; rec.us lists 1398 Mansell St. Rec.us places the courts along the Mansell Promenade on the east side of the park. McLaren is San Francisco’s second-largest park, established in 1927, with more than 7 miles of trails across 312 acres, the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater, a golf course, McNab Lake and Coffman Pool, per Rec & Park.

When you play on an open court, the city’s walk-up rules apply: a 5-minute warm-up, one set or 30 minutes when others are waiting, and doubles when four or more are waiting. More in the walk-up courts guide.

- Restrooms: yes, 8am to 8pm per Rec & Park.
- Wall and pickleball: no practice wall and no pickleball courts are listed at the tennis site.
Getting there on Muni
- 56 Rutland: stops at Mansell St & Visitacion Ave.
- 29 Sunset: runs on Mansell Street, with a stop at Mansell St & San Bruno Ave.
If the courts are full or it gets dark
- Palega Recreation Center, 500 Felton Street (also McLaren Park & Portola): 2 lighted walk-up courts.
- Crocker Amazon Playground in the Excelsior: 3 lighted reservable courts with slots to 7:30pm.

Tip: with six courts, McLaren is a good choice for a group of eight or more. Book courts 1 to 4 a week ahead at 8am, then add courts 5 and 6 two days ahead at noon. Each person can hold only 1 reservation a day, so split the bookings among the group.
