Sharing Courts With Pickleball in San Francisco

Updated October 2026. Tennis City SF › San Francisco Tennis Guides

Many San Francisco Rec & Park tennis courts are also lined for pickleball, and both sports are booked on the same rec.us system at $5 per court per hour. Here’s how the sharing works.

How it works

  • Shared courts: most pickleball play in the city is on tennis courts with extra lines. Pickleball players usually bring portable nets.
  • Dedicated pickleball courts: a small number exist, including at Goldman Tennis Center and Louis Sutter Playground. Tennis players don’t need to compete for those.
  • Bookings: a reservation on rec.us gives you the court for your slot, whichever sport you play. See how to book.
  • Walk-up time: the same first-come, first-served rules apply to both sports. See walk-up courts.

Sharing politely

  • Pickleball groups: take portable nets down at the end of your slot, and keep balls off the neighboring court.
  • Tennis players: if a court is free and pickleball players are waiting, the same rotation rules apply to you.
  • Be patient with lines. Extra lines take a few sessions to tune out.

City policy

Rec & Park has changed its approach over time, including dual lining resurfaced courts and then pausing further conversions while it reviews court use. Check Pickleball Project News for the latest.
