Balboa Park at Ocean Avenue and San Jose Avenue has 4 tennis courts, all reservable on rec.us for $5 per court per hour, and it is one of the easiest public courts to reach by rail: Balboa Park BART and the J, K and M Muni lines all serve the area. There are no lights.
Where the courts are
Rec.us places the courts on the east side of the park and says to enter via San Jose Avenue. Balboa Park is also home to Boxer Stadium, ball fields, an indoor pool and a skate park, per Rec & Park.

Rec & Park limits each person to 1 reservation a day and 3 a week, for individual play only. Unbooked courts are open for walk-up play, and a booking left empty 15 minutes after the start time becomes walk-up time. See how to book a tennis court.
When you play on an open court, the city’s walk-up rules apply: a 5-minute warm-up, one set or 30 minutes when others are waiting, and doubles when four or more are waiting. More in the walk-up courts guide.

- Court hours: 7am to 7:30pm on rec.us. The park is open 5am to midnight.
- Lights: none.
- Restrooms: yes, 8am to 8pm in spring and summer and 8am to 5:30pm in fall and winter per Rec & Park.
- Wall and pickleball: no practice wall and no pickleball courts are listed here.

- BART: Balboa Park Station, 401 Geneva Avenue.
- J Church: stops at San Jose Ave & Ocean Ave on its way to Balboa Park Station.
- K Ingleside and M Ocean View: both serve Balboa Park Station.
- 29 Sunset: stops at Ocean Ave & San Jose Ave.
- 49 Van Ness/Mission: stops at Ocean Ave/Balboa Park BART Station.
- 8, 43 and 54: stop on Geneva Avenue at Balboa Park BART.
