Updated October 2026. Tennis City SF › Playing Tennis While Visiting San Francisco

You can reach many San Francisco public tennis courts without a car. BART stops at Glen Park and Balboa Park, both with courts in the neighborhood, and Muni Metro, the cable cars and the F line stop at or near more than ten sites. Stop names below are as SFMTA and BART list them.

Before you ride

Reservable Rec & Park courts are booked on rec.us for $5 per court per hour, with 1 reservation a day and 3 a week per person. Walk-up courts need no booking; the city’s rules give a 5-minute warm-up and one set or 30 minutes when others are waiting. See how to book a tennis court and the walk-up courts guide.

Tip: walk-up courts on this page, such as Grattan, West Portal and Mission Creek, suit a trip where transit timing is uncertain, because there is no reservation start time to miss.
