Updated October 2026. Tennis City SF › San Francisco Tennis Courts by Neighborhood
A hitting wall is the easiest way to practice when you have no partner. Rec & Park lists 2 public sites in San Francisco with a practice wall or backboard.
Public hitting walls
- Alice Marble Courts, Greenwich and Hyde (Russian Hill & Nob Hill). Practice wall; Courts 1 to 3 release 7 days ahead at 8am; court 4 releases 2 days ahead at noon.
- Jose Coronado Playground, 21st and Folsom Street (Mission). Lighted. Backboard.
Wall rules
Rec & Park rules limit backboard use to 20 minutes when others are waiting. Don’t hit against fences or the backs of other courts; it disturbs players next to you.
Other ways to practice solo
- Rent a ball machine at Goldman Tennis Center (see the Goldman guide).
- Serve practice on an empty court: book a 90-minute slot and bring a basket of balls.
- Find a hitting partner in the Slack group with a short, specific post.
