Updated October 2026. Tennis City SF
The main ways to take tennis lessons in San Francisco are SF Rec & Park’s licensed instructors at 20 city parks, group classes at Goldman Tennis Center in Golden Gate Park, and private coaches you book directly. Here’s how they compare.
Rec & Park lessons
SF Rec & Park licenses tennis instructors to teach at 20 parks around the city. Browse and book at sflessons.rec.us or call 415-831-6800. Instructors must be licensed: teaching for pay on city courts without a permit is prohibited (Park Code 3.08), so check that a coach is licensed before booking a regular lesson at a public park.
