USTA NorCal team leagues
USTA team tennis is the biggest league scene in the city; Tennis Coalition SF counts more than 200 San Francisco teams. To play you need three things:
- A USTA membership ($44 a year, $42 for players 70 and over).
- An NTRP rating. New players self-rate online, which takes 2 to 3 business days to process. See how to rate yourself.
- A team. Ask in the Slack group, or contact USTA NorCal ([email protected], 510-748-7373) to be matched with a captain. Golden Gate Tennis Club also helps players find captains.
League divisions include 18 & Over, 40 & Over, 55 & Over and 65 & Over, mixed doubles (18, 40 and 55 & Over) and combo doubles. Each league fee is $33 and non-refundable. Details: USTA NorCal adult leagues.
USTA Flex
USTA Flex leagues let you arrange matches with others in your division on your own schedule, for about NTRP 2.5 to 5.0 players, with no USTA membership needed. The fall 2026 season runs September 28 to December 13. Winter 2027 dates have not been announced; the 2026 winter season ran January 19 to April 5.
UTR Flex SF
The UTR Flex San Francisco club has over 1,800 members. The next doubles season starts November 4, 2026 and singles starts November 11. Matches count toward your UTR rating.
TennisSF
TennisSF has over 7,000 players in singles ladders, a partner program and mixed doubles. Fall season #2 runs November 10 to January 10 ($39.95 early bird through October), and spring season #1 runs January 19 to March 31 ($36.95 early bird through November; prices rise after the early-bird date, see tennissf.com).
Social and club leagues
- Tennis Coalition SF runs monthly Community Social Doubles at Goldman Tennis Center ($10, NTRP 3.0 to 4.0, 18+), alternating Friday 6 to 8pm and Sunday 3 to 5pm. Remaining 2026 dates: November 13 and December 13. Sign up on Eventbrite through tenniscoalitionsf.org.
- GLTF (the Gay & Lesbian Tennis Federation of San Francisco), open to all players, runs USTA teams, social doubles, Flex play and clinics (gltf.org).
- The Mission Athletic Club (TMAC) has free membership and free “Volleys & Vibes” open sessions, about three events a week, listed on Luma (missionathletic.club).
FAQ
I just moved here. Which league should I start with?
If you want regular matches without a team commitment, start with TennisSF or a Flex league. If you want teammates and a social group, join a USTA team; captains often look for new players before each season.
What if I don’t know my level?
Read NTRP ratings explained, or try a round robin or social doubles night first to see where you fit.
