How to Join a USTA League Team in San Francisco

Updated October 2026. Tennis City SF › New to San Francisco? A Tennis Starter Guide

To join a USTA league team in San Francisco, buy a USTA membership, get an NTRP rating, then find a captain whose team is registering for the next league. Registration for the first three 2027 leagues (Adult 40 & Over, 40 & Over Daytime and Mixed 18 & Over) runs November 2 to 30, 2026. Tennis Coalition SF says the city fields more than 200 USTA teams in a typical year.

Step by step

  1. Join USTA. Adult membership is $44 a year ($42 at 70 and over; free for juniors 18 and under). Make sure it covers the whole league season. If you were a member in another section, call USTA NorCal at 510-748-7373 to move your membership.
  2. Get an NTRP rating. If you have no computer rating, self-rate online. USTA NorCal says the self-rate takes two to three business days, so do it before registration closes. See NTRP ratings.
  3. Find a team. Search divisions at leagues.ustanorcal.com, or use “join a team” from your NorCal player profile. On USTA’s league search you can enter your ZIP code and travel distance, and your request goes to the local league coordinator, who may form a whole team if enough players ask.
  4. Register. Once a captain adds you, you pay the per-player league fee ($33 per league in 2026) on the USTA NorCal site. Check the current fee there; captains play free.
  5. Pay team costs. Each captain sets the team’s ball and court fees, which vary by team.
