Updated October 2026. Tennis City SF › New to San Francisco? A Tennis Starter Guide
If you are new to San Francisco and want a tennis community rather than a single match, start with one of the public-court groups: The Mission Athletic Club (free membership), GLTF (open to all, with USTA teams and monthly socials) or TennisSF (paid ladders and a partner program). The Tennis City SF Slack group is the quickest way to find people to hit with this week.

The Mission Athletic Club
TMAC describes itself as a San Francisco tennis community that hosts social games, organizes league play and runs off-court socials such as volunteering and post-tennis gatherings. It has programs for beginners to advanced players. Membership is free; members chip in time, equipment and balls, and clinics and tournaments carry a fee. TMAC is a fiscally sponsored project of Social Good Fund. Its free Volleys & Vibes open sessions are listed on Luma.
GLTF
The Gay and Lesbian Tennis Federation of San Francisco is a non-profit that says “All are welcome!” It sponsors men’s and women’s USTA teams from 3.0 to 4.5 and mixed teams, runs monthly social doubles and Flex leagues, and holds GLTF-only clinics with local pros. Its annual Tennispalooza at Goldman Tennis Center, with tennis, pickleball, food and door prizes, was held Sunday, September 20, 2026 and did not require membership. Contact: [email protected].
TennisSF
TennisSF is the San Francisco branch of the Tennis League Network, with more than 7,175 local players listed. It runs ladder divisions from Skilled to Advanced plus women’s divisions, a fall mixed doubles division, single-elimination tournaments with a consolation draw, and a Partner Program for people who just want to hit. Fall Season #2 runs November 10 to January 10 ($39.95 through October); Spring Season #1 runs January 19 to March 31 ($36.95 through November).
Groups at Goldman Tennis Center
Goldman’s drop-in round robins (ages 16+, $30 to $47) are a way to meet players without joining anything. They run four times a week in fall 2026. See drop-in tennis.
